What one bag of 1.5 mm makes
1.5 mm is the most-ordered melee size for pavé bands, halo surrounds and micro-set work: large enough to read as a continuous line of light, small enough to seat cleanly in a standard pavé or shared-prong setting. Counts below use the formulas from our halo and eternity band and tennis bracelet pages; stone cost is the count × $2.75.
| Piece | Stones (approx.) | Stone cost (approx.) | Bags needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single halo around a 1 ct round (6.5 mm) | 16–17 | $44–47 | 1 bag makes about 4 halos |
| Single halo around a 2 ct round (8 mm) | 19–20 | $52–55 | 1 bag makes about 3 halos |
| Half-eternity band, US size 6 | 14 | $39 | 1 bag makes about 4 bands |
| Full eternity band, US size 5 | 27 | $74 | 1 bag, with spares |
| Full eternity band, US size 6 | 28 | $77 | 1 bag, with spares |
| Full eternity band, US size 7 | 30 | $83 | 1 bag, with spares |
| Full eternity band, US size 8 | 31 | $85 | 1 bag, with spares |
| Tennis bracelet, 7 in (165 mm stone run) | 86 | $237 | 2 bags ($358), spares included |
Halo counts come from stones ≈ π × (centre width + 1.5) ÷ 1.5; line pieces from stones ≈ run length ÷ (1.5 + 0.4 mm of metal between seats). Add 10–15% for spares, never fewer than two — at 65 to the bag, the spares are usually already in the bag. A bag ordered months later is sorted to the same ±0.1 mm and graded to the same DE VS–VVS parcel standard, so what is left after one job is matched stock for the next.
Nearby sizes, 1.3 to 1.7 mm
Our round melee comes in 0.1 mm steps, so you can order the size a setting actually measures rather than the nearest sieve size. One step changes the count per carat by roughly 10–20 stones and the per-stone price by 25–75 cents.
| Size | Approx. ct per stone | Approx. stones per bag | Price per bag | Approx. per stone | Buy |

Matching an existing piece? Measure one stone in the row with a gauge rather than guessing from the design — production pavé is often a size smaller than it looks. If you are between sizes, send a photo of the setting on WhatsApp and Leilei confirms the size before you order.
Where "approximately 65" comes from
A carat is 0.2 g, so a 1-carat bag holds 0.2 g of stones whatever their size. For a round brilliant, weight rises roughly with the cube of the diameter; the trade's standard diamond sieve relation puts a 1.5 mm stone at about 0.015 ct, and 1 ÷ 0.015 ≈ 65. A parcel that runs to the small end of the ±0.1 mm tolerance holds more stones — 1.4 mm stones run about 80 to the carat — and one that runs large holds fewer; deeper pavilions and thicker girdles also add weight at the same diameter. Treat 65 as a planning number and the millimetre size as the specification. Bags under 3 mm are made up to a full carat.

Questions jewelers ask
- How many 1.5 mm lab-grown diamond melee stones are in one carat?
- Approximately 65. A 1.5 mm round brilliant weighs about 0.015 ct, so a 1-carat bag holds roughly 65 stones; a parcel at the small end of the ±0.1 mm tolerance holds more, one at the large end fewer. Caratura sells 1.5 mm laboratory-grown diamond melee as single-size 1-carat bags, DE colour, VS–VVS clarity, Hearts & Arrows cut.
- How much does 1.5 mm lab-grown diamond melee cost?
- $179 per 1-carat bag at Caratura, about $2.75 per stone, with the price listed on the product page — no quote. Shipping is $20 flat worldwide and free over $100, so a single bag ships free, with duties on us in the US and Europe. The minimum order is one bag.
- What does one bag of 1.5 mm melee make?
- About four single halos around a 1 ct centre (16–17 stones each), or one full eternity band in US sizes 5–8 (27–31 stones) with spares left over, or about four half-eternity bands. A 7-inch tennis bracelet in 1.5 mm takes about 86 stones, two bags.
- What is the tolerance on 1.5 mm calibrated melee?
- Each bag is one size sorted to within ±0.1 mm of 1.5 mm, stated in writing under Caratura's calibration and matching guarantee, hand-inspected and photographed or filmed before dispatch. Tighter sorting is usually possible on request.
- Does the 1.5 mm melee come with a grading report?
- No. Like all melee in the trade it is sorted and graded as a parcel — DE colour, VS–VVS clarity to the supplier's standard — not stone by stone. Describe it on invoices and appraisals as laboratory-grown diamond melee, with the qualifier next to the word diamond.
- Will 1.5 mm lab-grown melee sit unnoticed next to a mined centre stone?
- Yes — that is what most of it is bought for. Laboratory-grown diamond is diamond, with the same brightness, fire and hardness; DE melee reads a touch whiter than a G–H mined centre and noticeably whiter than a J or warmer one, so judge it on the piece and disclose it as laboratory-grown on the paperwork.
