What “calibrated to ±0.1 mm” actually means

Most overseas melee is pulled from mixed production batches, so “1.5 mm” can really run 1.4–1.6 mm. Stones outside a tight tolerance rock in the seat, sit at different heights, and break up the line of a pavé or halo. We calibrate every parcel to within 0.1 mm of your stated size and check it by hand before it leaves us. You get a stated number — not just the word “calibrated.”

For matched work, size alone isn't enough — color and cut have to read as one continuous surface. We send your order as one matched lot, not mixed batches, so adjacent stones look identical across the whole setting. Matching inside one parcel is the easy half. The half that catches jewellers out is the top-up: the row is already set and a stone is lost, or the piece sells and you make a second — and the melee that arrives three months later reads differently in the light.

That happens when a supplier fills your order from whatever production is to hand. We cut from one standard raw material, and cut and polish it the same way each time, so colour, cut and polish do not drift between parcels — and the size comes back to the same ±0.1 mm. Order that size again next year and it belongs in the same row.

To be exact about what is what: the ±0.1 mm remedy below is a guarantee, with a stated tolerance and a stated fix. Consistency between orders is not a separate promise bolted on top — it is a consequence of using one raw material and one method, and it is the reason to buy a whole piece's melee from one place.

Hand inspection + video before it ships

Every lot is inspected by hand for uniform size, color and cut, and about 20% of the stones are rejected — chipped or broken points, visible inclusions, unclean surface finish. We then send you video of your actual stones before shipping, so you see the real parcel, not a stock photo. For moissanite, we treat a GRA card as a receipt, not proof; the video and the stated tolerance are the real assurance.

Cut, and why two “D/VVS” parcels can look different

Moissanite has a higher refractive index and considerably more dispersion than diamond, so cut decides how much of that shows. Fully machine-cut material throws far more coloured fire than its neighbours and reads as the wrong stone in a set row. Every stone we supply is semi-hand cut and hand polished, cut to proportions that hold that dispersion down. It is the reason two parcels sold under the same grade letter can behave nothing alike once they are set.

Measure your parcel on arrival. If any stone falls outside the ±0.1 mm tolerance we quoted, report it within 14 days of delivery with a photo of the measurement, and we'll replace the affected stones free of charge or refund them. Calibration you can verify — not a claim you have to take on faith.
